This year, we have already seen the launch of a number of impressive new smartphones. These include the likes of the HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4. Although it now faces increasingly impressive competition from such devices, Apple remains one of the biggest brands in the business, with its current iPhone 5 model continuing to sell well. The device was launched back in September 2012, and although its sales figures may not be on par with previous models, remains one of the most sought after devices available.
There has recently been a lot of speculation about Apple’s plans for its iconic smartphones series in 2013. There have recently been plenty of rumours suggesting that Apple will be launching an upgraded iPhone 5S model this year, as well as a new budget iPhone device. The latter would be a first from the California based manufacturer, which has only released premium smartphone models in the past. However, with manufacturers like Samsung selling huge volumes of more affordable Android smartphones, particularly in emerging markets it would be a great opportunity for apple to increase its market share.
Although Apple has not officially announced that it will be releasing a budget iPhone model, a number of prominent sources have claimed that this will indeed be the case. Mashable has recently reported that the ETrade Supply has again claimed that this will be the case, and is likely to be launched in the summer. Mashable also reports that despite its lower price tag, the budget iPhone will not necessarily be an entry level smartphone, and is likely to incorporate mostly mid range features.
